Dereliction of duty is a conscious failure of an employee to do his or her duty. What then is gross dereliction of duty?

Gross dereliction is more serious in degree vs ordinary dereliction – like gross negligence is more serious vs
“ordinary” negligence. So minor vs serious. The distinction influences the degree of sanction – warning for minor vs dismissal for gross.

I believe dereliction of duty is a failure of an employee to do his or her duty. Gross dereliction is when an employee does this on purpose.
